Itinerary

TOKYO

Konnichiwa and welcome to Toyko! Today you’ll arrive into one of the world’s buzziest, most forward thinking cities. Checking in to your hostel, you’ll then meet up with your travel crew and get excited for the adventures to come.

TOKYO

Today is all about discovering all that Tokyo has in store. First up, we’ll pay a visit to one of the country’s oldest temples, Senso-ji Temple, before checking out the Meiji Shrine. Colourful, eclectic and fashion forward Harajuku is up next, before we brave the iconic Shibuya Crossing, the world’s busiest intersection. After dinner this evening, we’ll then squeeze in to one of the hilariously tiny bars in the district of Shinjuku.

TOKYO

The organised chaos of the vast and impressive Tsukiji Fish Market is first on the agenda. We’ll then meet up with a sushi master to try our hand at the art of sushi rolling, before venturing over to the futuristic sights and sounds of Akihabara. Known locally as the ‘Electric City’, it's famous for its electronic shops, maid cafes, Japanese photo booths and all things modern.

NAGANO

Now’s your chance to experience Japan’s famous bullet train for real. Shooting out of Tokyo at over 200mph, we’ll reach Nagano just in time for a sake tasting, Japan’s national drink. Feeling decidedly buzzed after our visit to the local brewery, we’ll then settle in to our Ryokan style hostel, where you’ll be sleeping on traditional tatami mats and Japanese style futon bedding.

NAGANO

We’ll be venturing out into the mountains today to spot the region’s famous snow monkeys, or Japanese Macaques. These red faced trouble makers play amongst the trees in the summer months & warm by bathing in the natural hot springs once winter hits. Enjoying the fresh mountain air, we’ll then take our time exploring the gorgeous lakes and forests of the Shiga Kogen National Park.

HAKONE

It’s back on board the bullet train this morning, this time bound for Hakone. Famed for hot springs, natural beauty and (of course) Mount Fuji, we’ll check in to our trendy hotel that comes complete with its very own onsen.

OSAKA

You might not be walking the plank, but you will be exploring Hakone by pirate ship (and cable car) this morning, keeping eyes peeled for views of snow capped Mount Fuji. We’ll then journey on to Osaka, and head straight out to explore the vibrant canal region of Dotonbori. Dinner will be on us, where we’ll fuel up for a night out, Osaka style.

OSAKA

This morning you’ll have time to yourself to chill and maybe squeeze in a spot of shopping, before we head out as a group to visit the 400 year old Osaka Castle. Looking like something straight out of a fairytale you’ll struggle not to get house envy as we explore the grounds and hear stories of Japanese history and legends, including the country’s most famous warriors, the Samurai.

KOYASAN

Ready for something extra special? Today we have just the thing - an overnight stay in a 1000 year old Buddhist temple. Leaving Osaka behind we’ll travel to the mountains for the town of Koyasan, where we’ll be welcomed into the temple by the monks who live there. They’ll teach us meditation, serve us their traditional foods, and lead us through a night time stroll of Japan’s largest cemetery.

KOYASAN

It’s an early start today, but well worth it to watch the Buddhist monks perform their morning prayer ritual and fire ceremony. We’ll then be served breakfast before travelling on to our final destination, Kyoto. After checking in to our boutique hostel, you’ll have time to yourself to explore Japan’s ancient capital.

KYOTO

Green, lush and vibrant, the Insta famous Bamboo Forest of Arashiyama is our first stop today. Photos snapped, we’ll then head to the luxurious Golden Pavilion, so named for being covered entirely in gold, before finishing our day in the district of Gion, best known for being the home of Japan’s beautiful and mysterious Geishas.

KYOTO

Ending our trip on a high, today we’ll visit the famous Torii gates of Fushimi-Inari. One of Japan’s most iconic and photographed shrines, the orange gates stretch all the way up the mountainside. This afternoon, and maybe saving the best till last, you’ll then learn how to wield a traditional samurai sword under the watchful eye of a sensei, a descendant of the Samurai.

KYOTO

Your unforgettable 13 day adventure comes to an end today. Those flying home will make their way to the airport, or keep living the dream and extend your stay in Kyoto or Japan with our help and the new friends you’ve made.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Lots of people on our trips are travelling solo. But by doing our trip you’ll instantly be part of a group, so it’s a great way to meet others and make friends! Most of our accommodation is twin or triple share, so we will put you in a room with someone of the same gender.
You can start chatting to people in your group and other travellers before you leave. Just go to our Facebook page, click on ‘Groups’ and choose your country.
The Japanese call Japan ‘a country of four seasons’ which basically means it’s got four distinct seasons, all beautiful and amazing for different reasons. The winter months (Dec-Mar) are cold but bring stunning snow-capped mountains and a magical winter wonderland feel, not to mention being the best time to see the famous ‘Snow Monkeys’. Spring (Apr - Jun) is popular for its colourful beauty and famous cherry blossoms. Summer (Jun - Aug) is hot, humid and great for outdoor activities and is the peak festival season. Autumn (Sep – Nov) again brings stunning colourful scenery such as the ‘koyo’ or Japanese autumn foliage. So you’re sure to have an amazing time any month of year!
Japan is generally one of the more expensive countries in Asia. However all your activities, accommodation, transport and some meals are included, so you’ll just need money for any extra meals, drinks, shopping and any onward travel. We recommend you bring at least £600 / $1000 spending money.
We always recommend travelling with a backpack and packing light! 10-20kgs of stuff should be plenty. We will be using mainly trains for transport so dragging around a huge suitcase is not much fun. Depending on your onward travel plans there is luggage storage at the airports or at some accommodations if needed.

We had an amazing time on the Japan Adventure tour. Our group leader, Nathan, was a like a homie. Made us feel super comfortable and at home in a foreign country. All we needed to know was where we needed to be and at what time we needed to be there.. the rest was done for us. If we had questions for Nathan, we asked and got a quick response. And if he didn't know, he would go out of his way to ask. Nathan is also a down to earth guy who's fun to hang around with. The itinerary was masterful. We spent an appropriate amount of time in each place. The contrast between locations was also excellent. Like moving from the hustler and bustle of Tokyo to the small town of Nagano where we enjoyed a fantastic meal prepared by an older Japanese lady all on her own! Not having to worry about transportation is a big plus as well. All we needed to figure out was how to get to our departing flight... and Nathan even helped with that! We'll definitely be using Intro Travel again. The experience was top notch and a great value for what we paid.

Alexander - 15th Dec 2019

I went on the Japan 13 day tour and it was amazing! The accomodation was very good and in good locations. There was never short of something to do but we where always free to do our own thing. Our Guide Nathan was helpful and made sure that everyone was having the best trip possible! I’ve made friends to last a lifetime

Emma - 15th Dec 2019

A unique and unforgettable experience. 13 days in Japan during which I had the opportunity to see beautiful places and meet wonderful people. Our guide, Nathan, has been able to create a positive atmosphere and has always been available, ready to solve any kind of problem. Thanks to Intro for this amazing trip.

Maria - 13th Dec 2019

Excellent overall tour! Our guide Sammy was wonderful and the tour provides very good value for the price.

Sean - 5th Dec 2019

Overall, it was an incredible tour. The overall pacing was excellent, with time to slow down and take in the surroundings after being so busy in the city. The tour guide was always enthusiastic and ensured each activity was interesting.

Callan - 2nd Dec 2019

Amazing Experience! Japan Intro was my 3rd tour and the 4th country I discovered with Intro Travel and again, I couldn't be more satisfied and happier with my choice! Everything from the food and drinks we've tasted through all activities and experiences to places we've stayed in were just superb! Great value for money! Our tour leader - Sammy was simply incredible! :) We couldn't have asked for a better group leader, life mentor, karaoke teacher and travel buddy! Thanks to Sammy's amazing knowledge and enthusiasm about Japan we got to know this country and it's culture very well and we could tell that this is not just a job to her but it's also her passion! Sammy is definitely the right person for this job and leading tours in Japan, I'll keep her and this country in my heart forever :) I was so lucky to travel and experience Japan with such lovely and open minded people and making memories together! And it's all thanks to Intro Travel! I am planning my next trip with them already! :)

Kasia - 28th Nov 2019

Sammy was delightful, great personality to lead a tour. Very caring and personable, able to lead us to good times after our guided itineraries. Excellent accommodations. Would reccomend this tour to friends and family.

Leslie - 15th Nov 2019

Great way to pop my Japan cherry! Sammy was a fab leader and any group would be lucky to have her. Went at the start of November, weather was lovely and sunny and we got to see Fuji perfectly

Lucy - 15th Nov 2019

Japan with Intro! Amazing! You definitely should not miss this experience! A great mixture of so many things ... cool and fun activities (!) - many of them I would not have done travelling alone, visiting some of the main sites (cities as well as country side), different type of Japanese accomodation styles, a chance to taste different type of Japanese food, very well organized, very helpful guide (Nathan) with useful recommendations and input in all the different places. Japan with Intro ... go for it ... you won't regret it!

Sandra - 6th Nov 2019

What an incredible journey! I took the 13-day tour of japan, and it was totally sublime! Group leaders Nathan and Sammy were absolutely wonderful. They did an excellent job at making sure all of our concerns were addressed, and that everyone was having a great time. I particularly enjoyed our stay at the Ryokan in Nagano. The traditional Japanese-style room paired with the soothing sound of flowing water coming from a nearby river was utterly breathtaking. Another favorite of mine was the nightlife in Osaka and Kyoto. Karaoke was so much fun! My group was full of some incredibly kind individuals, whom I enjoyed my time with very much. If you’re looking to have an awesome adventure exploring Japan with a group of very pleasant people, I highly recommend booking this tour. Make sure to grab Sammy or Nathan as group leader, their kindhearted and energetic personalities made for a deeply enjoyable experience! Thanks again to group leaders Nathan and Sammy for the wonderful trip along with all the beautiful memories that came with it! :)

Arman - 6th Nov 2019

Just finished my Japan tour and it has been everything I hoped for and much more! So many activities, wonderful people, and non stop fun! Nathan was an amazing guide - fun, knowledgeable, and very helpful in navigating this very unique place. The itinerary was already varied and exciting but also venturing out to do our own thing was easy - he had tons of recommendations and made sure we always knew how to get everywhere safely. Our accommodations everywhere were clean, comfortable, safe and very close to all the action. Staying at a Buddhist Temple and the Samurai sword lesson were two of the many experiences I will never forget. Can’t wait to travel with Intro again soon! Highly recommended!

Yevegenia - 4th Nov 2019

Pretty fun tour! got to see heaps of different sights and experience some pretty cool things that's we wouldn't have been able to do by ourselves!

Sarah - 4th Nov 2019

Into travel was a great start to my Japan holiday. The tour included incredible sights and we experienced great activities that I mightn’t have been exposed to otherwise. The tour guide not only made my first independent trip smooth and fun but shared fascinating facts about the places we went and the Japanese culture. There are many memorable moments that I will take away and remember for times to come.

Samantha - 4th Nov 2019

Was my first time abroad and it was absolutely fantastic! Would highly recommend this tour - great introduction to Japan! Nathan was great too - was enthusiastic and helped us a lot throughout the trip!

Michael - 4th Nov 2019

Booked the 13-day Japan tour (my first ever), and it was nothing short of amazing! From gaming in flashy Tokyo arcades, to seeing snow monkeys at literally arm's length in Nagano, and on to experiencing the ascetic tranquility of Buddhist temples, there was no shortage of variety to be found. Nathan and Sammy were exellent tour hosts--their energy was infectious, and their dedication outstanding. Both went above and beyond in ensuring we were taken care of, and that we were enjoying ourselves. The only regret I had about this tour was that it had to end. I whole-heartedly recommend this tour to the intrepid traveler, you *will* have fun, and meet amazing people!

Robert - 14th Oct 2019

My trip was absolutely incredible! I did the 13 days tour in Japan and I had the best time. I experienced so much of Japan and learned so much about that country. Osaka was soooo good and of course staying in a Buddhist temple was a once in a lifetime experience. Our group leaders were amazing too! Always there for us if we needed help or had questions ! Thanks to Nathan and Sammy you were absolutely incredible. I will definitely come back to Japan!

Nina - 14th Oct 2019

Just finished the 13 day Japan tour. It was great. I had lots of fun. It was my first trip away and Intro did a fantastic job of taking the stress away and letting us just enjoy the experience. Group leaders Nathan and Sammy really made everyone feel welcome. From day one it felt like everyone was friends already. They really care about you too. After the tour they made sure everyone knew what to do and where to go for their onward travels. I highly recommend Intro to anyone looking for a fun trip.

Lucas - 14th Oct 2019

Had a brilliant time on the Japan tour and was pleased with how well organised it was, especially since it was the first ever tour! Nathan and Adam were super friendly and helpful throughout the trip and gave good recommendations for free time. I enjoyed the good variety of activities such as the cooking class, sake brewery, monkey park, pirate ship and staying in a 1,000 year old Buddhist temple! Would recommend for anyone wanting to see the best of Japan

Emma - 1st Sep 2019

This is my third Intro tour, and it just never disappoints. Always have the best time! Adam and Nathan were amazing tour leaders, making everything run smoothly, as well as being very knowledgable and keeping the group together. I loved every part of it, we visited the best of Japan’s cities, including Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, but my favourite was definitely being up in the mountains seeing the monkeys in Nagano! The sushi making class was also a lot of fun! This trip was amazing, and definitely my fav Intro tour so far. Can’t wait for my next!

Marie - 1st Sep 2019

I had an amazing time in Japan, the tour was organised perfectly and the group leaders Adam and Nathan were always supportive and very nice to me!!! Both the sushi masterclass and the samurai experience were awesome and gave me a true experience of Japanese traditions.

Marco - 1st Sep 2019

If you want to experience the best of Japan in a limited time with the best of guides (our's were Adam and Nathan) then this is the way to do it! Just sit back and enjoy it and let them look after you, so all you have to do is enjoy the experience you came for! Easy going, friendly, great craic, fun and Informative guides , what more could you need!? they are the icing on the cake to make the Japan adventure trip the trip of a life time! What are you waiting for???

Andrew - 1st Sep 2019

Incredible experience! I travelled for the first time solo and it couldn’t be any better! 13 days of traveling around Japan with such amazing people was an absolutely amazing experience! Our guide Adam had in depth and interesting knowledge and facts about Japan that made the trip really great! I learnt to roll sushi, got to cut through bamboo with a Samurai sword, saw absolutely beautiful temples and stay overnight in a Buddhist Temple. It all absolutely exceeded my expectations!

Jack - 1st Jun 2019

Japan Adventure has been the best tour I have ever been on! The accomodation is second to none the activities are flawless and everything ran so smooth without any issues. A few of my highlights were our nights out in Tokyo and being taught how to use a Samurai sword by an actual Samurai descendent! By far one of the best things we did on the tour was visit a Buddhist temple where we got to stay overnight and learn about their history and participate in their ancient rituals, truly breath taking. Adam was excellent too his energy and commitment to making sure everyone had a good time was unbelievable!

Lucy - 1st Jun 2019

An absolutely amazing trip! So many incredible highlights like the overnight stay in the Buddhist temple, the snow monkeys and all the amazing food we got to eat. I would honestly recommend Japan Adventure to anyone. There is so much included and we saw so much I would not have seen had I travelled on my own. Adam went above and beyond to make this the most memorable trip ever! I made friends for life and I can’t wait for my next Intro trip.

Maisie - 1st Jun 2019

Sooooo good!!! Amazing vibes, saw so much but also not too rushed. 100% recommended!! The accommodation was amazing - a great mix between traditional Japanese style rooms as well as modern hotels/hostels. Thanks INTRO!

Nicola - 1st Jun 2019

Wow, what an adventure! As well as Japan's main sites, this trip took us to some amazing out-of-the-way places (such as the Buddhist Temple stay) where the real journey happens. Brilliant local characters, jaw-dropping experiences, views to blow your brains out. Loved this trip! Thanks Intro and Adam!
