We understand that travel is a privilege, so we seek to create a positive impact in every destination we visit. Established in 2017, Small Change is our socially conscious initiative that helps us do just that.

PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

Protecting and preserving the beautiful destinations and natural beauty we visit is one of our highest priorities. As well as promoting and practicing sustainable travel, we conduct regular eco-audits on all our trips and suppliers to ensure we’re consistently minimising our impact on the natural environment.

SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITIES

We ensure that every trip we run has a direct and positive impact on the local communities we visit. This means that your money is being used to support the local economy, and going direct to those who need it most. Every one of our trips includes a variety of #smallchanges that you’ll get to experience first hand.

Small Change Cultural Icon
CULTURAL EXCHANGE & EDUCATION

As opposed to being a cultural observer, our trips are designed to help you understand and respect local cultures, traditions and ways of life. Through sharing knowledge and understanding, we ensure that your travels are mutually beneficial for both you, and those you are visiting.

Small Change Animal Welfare Icon
ANIMAL WELFARE

We’ve seen first hand how tourism can contribute to the abuse and mistreatment of animals, and it devastates us. To help end this, we support and visit a number of local animal welfare groups, we ensure no animal is ever hurt or negatively impacted by our activities, and we’ve even adopted a number of rescue animals at the properties we own.

Plastic Waste Small Change Image

To help reduce single use plastics and promote reusable alternatives, we’ve installed refillable water stations at nearly all of our overnight stops, and at many of our activity locations. We advise all our travellers to bring a reusable water bottle when they travel, but for those that don’t we also sell INTRO branded bottles on all our trips.

Small Change Page Tile Planting Trees

We've partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects to help protect, preserve and rebuild the natural world. From February 1st 2020 we'll be planting 10 trees for every INTRO Travel booking made! By hiring local villagers to plant trees in Nepal, Haiti, Indonesia & more, Eden Reforestation Projects are helping replant forests, restore animal habitats and reduce poverty and INTRO Travel are proud to support them with your help.

Siem Reap Village Donation

Working directly with the local village chiefs of the rural villages of Siem Reap, Cambodia, through both our contributions and the generosity of our travellers, we’ve helped to provide necessary supplies for many school children. In this impoverished area many families cannot afford school uniforms or basic school equipment, but we’re working hard to change this.

Beach Cleanups In Thailand INTRO Travel

Beach cleanups are a regular occurrence on INTRO trips. Just like you, we want to protect our oceans, waterways and marine life, so you’ll often find us and our awesome travellers collecting rubbish as we go. As well as our impromptu cleans, we’ve also partnered with organisations like Trash Hero in Thailand, and Gili Eco Trust in Indonesia, to further promote the message.

Small Change Charlie's Children

At our property Sarana Bungalows in Koh Phangan, Thailand, our travellers have the chance to donate old clothes, toiletries and spare change to Charlie’s Children’s Charity. This incredible team work with disadvantaged and mentally handicapped children, providing them with clothes, food, toiletries and much needed medical supplies.

INTRO Rat

Did you know, there are still 2 - 6 million unexploded bomb remnants in rural Siem Reap alone? The dangers of these are unfathomable, which is why we work closely with APOPO, a Siem Reap based non-government organisation that trains rats to detect bombs that can then be safely detonated. We’ve even adopted Magawa the super rat, who will help save thousands of lives through her important work.

Small Change Monk School

Based in Midigama, our Sri Lanka Experience trip visits a small ‘Pirivena’ or Buddhist monk school, with all funds from the experience going towards the maintenance and development of the school. In addition, our travellers also help the young monks with their English language practice, and in turn have the chance to learn about life as a student monk.

Gede's Family Small Change

From the moment we started visiting Lovina, a beautiful and rural area in Northern Bali, we knew we wanted to support the local community in some way. Then, as if by magic, we met Gede, who lives with his family on a small farm and coffee plantation. Fast forward to today, where all our groups visiting Lovina have the chance to visit Gede, learn about the traditional art of basket weaving, and ask questions about local life.

Small CHange Earthquake Relief

On August 5th 2018, a massive earthquake devastated North Lombok and much of the Gili Islands in Bali. Together with other tour operators, we collectively raised over $50,000 to help support the local community. Additionally, we personally delivered shipments of supplies to the areas that were hardest hit, including to Hifan, our Gili Boat Operator who together with his family, was hugely impacted by the disaster.

Small Change Sustainable Farming

Travellers on our Thai Experience trip, have the chance to support the development of the Rungfah Farm Stay in Khao Sok National Park. The brain child of our enigmatic friend Mr You, the back to basics sustainable farm promotes eco friendly living, including using self produced and eco friendly fertiliser. Mr You built his homestay by hand and uses solar power to generate energy, with all funds paid to him being used to help support his young family, as well as the upkeep of the farm.

Gift of Travel Small Change

Our local guides / legends are the backbone of our operations and a very special part of the INTRO family. Several times a year we offer the opportunity for one or more of our local guides to travel to another one of our destinations or choose an experience they may not normally get to do, courtesy of and with love from us.

Mekong Village Small Change

Mr Op and his family from the Mekong Delta in Vietnam started with humble beginnings and only a couple of bungalows on a small island on the Delta. After 2 years of support from our groups visiting and experiencing how the locals really live there, he’s been able to create enough bungalows for our groups to stay with him and his family on this tiny island on the Delta.
