Itinerary

JOHANNESBURG

Welcome to Johannesburg! We’ll meet you at the airport and take you to our funky hostel. You’ll have time to relax before meeting up with your new group of mates. This evening we’ll head out together to take in the atmosphere of JoBurg and get excited for adventures yet to come!

JOHANNESBURG

This morning we’re off to explore the town of Soweto by bicycle, cruising past Nelson Mandela’s house as we learn about the tumultuous history of the area. Diving deeper into South Africa’s history of struggle we’ll visit the beautifully designed Apartheid Museum - the first of it's kind - to give us more context. This afternoon is yours to explore before we head out to grab some drinks at the best watering holes around!

HAZYVIEW

We'll depart early towards Kruger National Park, making our way along the famous Panorama Route to see some of Africa's most unique landscapes before checking in to our accommodation nestled in the valley.

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast we’ll be on our way to Kruger National Park, hopefully getting our first glimpses at wildlife as we head to our unique campsite in a secluded corner of the park. Tonight we put our skills to the test, assisting the chefs in preparing a traditional South African braai (BBQ dinner), a hearty feast perfect to get us ready for tomorrow’s safari!

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Today it’s time to tick off that bucket list with an open vehicle game drive through Kruger National Park! Have your camera ready whilst looking out for prides of lions, herds of elephants, solitary leopards, rhinos and masses of buffalo, all with experienced guides who'll make sure we have the best experience possible. Tonight our guide will show us how to make traditional stork brood (stick bread) to enjoy with another BBQ over the fire before we spend the night gazing up at an infinite, starry sky,

HLANE NATIONAL PARK

The tiny landlocked nation of Eswatini awaits as we cross the border to enter Hlane Royal National Park, a protected area teeming with wildlife and diverse Swazi ecosystems. This afternoon we’ll spot more of Africa’s famous wildlife on a sunset game drive. Tonight we’ll gather around the campfire to watch rangers perform their traditional style of Swazi singing and dancing for us, complete with drums and whistles.

ZULULAND

Today we re-enter South Africa and continue south towards Pongolapoort Nature Reserve, taking in the breathtaking views. After checking in to camp we’ll visit a local village to discover the region’s traditional way of life. We’ll then watch the sun set over the mighty Lake Jozini whilst one of the friendly locals tells us stories around the campfire with an authentic Zulu meal.

DURBAN

Today we head to the sun-soaked coastal city of Durban. Whether you want to go dolphin spotting, skydiving, surfing, check out the markets or just hit the beach, Durban is the playground for you! Tonight we’ll be shown how to make Bunny Chow, a South African fast food dish that’s essentially a loaf of bread filled with curry. A must try!

CAPE TOWN

We’re off early this morning to catch our short flight to Cape Town. This afternoon we rise to the heavens as we summit the iconic Table Mountain. Crisp air accompanies dramatic scenic views, earning Table Mountain its title as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, and we'll soak up a stunning sunset over the majestic natural amphitheatre. This evening we’ll make our way to the V&A Water-front to stroll, shop, visit a brewery and take in the views.

CAPE TOWN

Today we’re off on a walking tour of Bo-Kaap, a neighbourhood known for its brightly coloured houses, the oldest mosque in South Africa, and spicy Cape Malay cuisine. We'll wander past other icons including the Houses of Parliament, The Castle and Cape Town Stadium. Later we’ll stroll Sea Point Promenade to soak up the fresh air and crashing waves. We’ll end the evening sipping cocktails at the waterfront whilst watching the sun sink below the horizon, ending another brilliant day in Africa.

CAPE TOWN

Get ready for a full day adventure around the dramatic Cape Peninsula exploring beaches and sheer cliffs that drop into the Atlantic. We’ll stop in the gorgeous fishing town of Hout Bay for a cruise that will get us up close and personal with a thousand-strong colony of wild fur seals. After lunch we’ll discover Chapman’s Peak, the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, and hang out with a colony of wild African Penguins on Boulders Beach. Tonight we’ll have our farewell dinner and drinks on Long Street, the party district of Cape Town!

CAPE TOWN

Time to bid farewell as our 12 day African adventure comes to an end. You can either check out and journey home, or continue your travels in Africa. If you need any assistance planning onward travel, we’re more than happy to help!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Lots of people on our trips are travelling solo. But by doing our trip you’ll instantly be part of a group, so it’s a great way to meet others and make friends! Most of our accommodation is twin or triple share, so we will put you in a room with someone of the same gender.

Just let us know who you’re travelling with after you’ve booked and your relationship to them, and we’ll organise appropriate room shares for you. Our baooking system takes one booking at a time, so if you’re booking for multiple people just complete a separate booking for each person. It’s super quick and easy!

No worries. Unless you tell us otherwise we’ll automatically book you into our accommodation from the day you arrive, and then you can just pay for your extra nights on arrival. If you’re staying at our accommodation we will provide a personal airport pick up even if you arrive early.

The great thing about South Africa is that it’s a predominately sunny country, and year round travel is possible thanks to its vast size and diverse range of attractions. Summer weather lasts from October to April, and winter brings cooler weather and fewer crowds from May to September.

All your activities, accommodation, transport and some meals are included, so you’ll just need money for any extra meals, drinks, shopping and any onward travel. We recommend you bring at least £400 / $700 spending money.

Some accommodations we stay at have free Wi-Fi available. The network quality is often lower than you’re used to but you can generally connect and do basic stuff.

We always recommend travelling with a backpack and packing light! 10-20kgs of stuff should be plenty. It’s generally quite hot so dragging around a huge suitcase is not much fun. There is luggage storage at the airport or at some accommodations if needed.
