What is Vivid Sydney?

Going from May 23rd until June 15th, Vivid is the 23-day-long, annual light show that takes place primarily around Sydney Harbour. Starting at 6 pm every evening, the Sydney skyline becomes illuminated, unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. People travel from across the world just to see Vivid, so make sure you check it out if in Sydney during this period.

Vivid’s Exhibitions

Consisting of 9 precincts, Vivid has too many locations of vibrant light shows and events to see in one day, so you plan more than one evening trip to experience the magic! Lights and projections illuminate the Sydney Harbour, The Rocks, Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, The Royal Botanic Gardens, Chatswood, Barangaroo, Taronga Zoo, and Luna Park. See the Sydney Opera House display an entire show on its architecturally amazing roof, and the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge light up as glowing boats boasting massive neon signs float under it causing compelling, colourful reflections across the water of the harbour.

How to Experience Vivid

As amazing as a walking tour through the city is during Vivid, there are so many other unreal ways to experience the event. Taking a Vivid Harbour Cruise is an amazing way to get up close and personal with the colour-changing Harbour Bridge and Opera House, and to see the details of the decorated, lit-up boats passing by in every direction.
Whether you choose to walk through The Royal Botanical Gardens to experience one of its 15 light installations, including Firefly Field, or choose to hop on a ride at one of Luna Park’s on-theme rides that give you amazing harbour views, you’re guaranteed a mesmerising, unforgettable experience.

Vivid Dining and Drinks

Sydney’s O Bar & Dining , a high-rise bar and restaurant with insane views of the city and harbour, is offering a special Vivid-only deal: buy two of their fruity, neon, Vivid-themed drinks and get a free share plate to munch on while you enjoy the light shows happening below. With loads of other restaurants and bars boasting Vivid-themed cocktails, including the Opera Bar and MCA Cafe, you’re sure to find a fun drink or two to pair with a fun night of light-watching. Aside from glowing drinks, be sure to check out the multitude of food stalls popping up in several locations throughout the festival. We specifically recommend the food stalls at the Royal Botanical Gardens which offer typical street foods along with on-theme dishes and drinks!
